GobbleGums are back in Black Ops 7, and this time they feel less like a throwback and more like a system that actually fits how people play now. There are 47 in total, with 41 old favourites returning and 6 new ones added to the pool, so right away there's a bit more variety in how each run can unfold. The usual rarity spread is here too, from Rare up to Ultra, plus the silly Whimsical category that's mostly there for fun. What stands out, though, is how much value they add from the first few rounds onward. Even players jumping between casual matches, high-round attempts, or a CoD BO7 Bot Lobby will notice the system has more purpose now, not just more nostalgia.
A smarter use for every gum
The best change is the new crush mechanic. You don't have to burn a GobbleGum just because it's in your pack, and you don't have to keep hoarding stuff you'll never use either. In BO7, you can crush a gum during a match and turn it straight into Essence. The better the rarity, the better the payout. That one change fixes a problem Zombies players had for years. People used to sit on stacks of rare gums and never touch them. Now they've got a second life. If your setup is already good and one gum doesn't fit the plan, turn it into money and keep moving. In the early game, that can mean faster doors, quicker perks, or enough spare Essence to stabilise before the map starts getting nasty.
The classics still do the heavy lifting
A lot of the returning GobbleGums still hit exactly the way you'd want. Kill Joy is still brilliant when a round starts slipping. Cache Back remains one of those gums that never really goes out of style, because free ammo is free ammo. Temporal Gift is another one that smart players will keep in rotation, especially when a power-up can make the difference between cleaning up a wave and getting overrun. Anywhere But Here still has that panic-button value too. You get trapped, hit it, and suddenly the whole round feels manageable again. That's part of the charm with this system. It isn't always about flashy effects. Sometimes it's just one simple save at the perfect moment.
High-tier gums and pack swapping
Once you move into Legendary and Ultra territory, things get a bit wild. These are the gums people will stash for boss fights, late-round recoveries, or those moments when the squad is hanging on by a thread. Some can swing an entire match on their own, whether that means grabbing every perk, boosting weapon quality, or shutting down a dangerous horde before it snowballs. On top of that, the pack-swapping feature gives the whole system more depth than before. You can start with an economy-focused setup, get your doors and perks sorted, then pivot into survival tools later. That kind of flexibility matters more than people think, and it's probably why BO7's GobbleGums already feel central to the mode. For players testing routes, chasing Easter eggs, or even warming up in CoD BO7 Bot Lobbies, they're not just useful extras anymore, they're part of the strategy from the first round on.
